Part of the Kogod Cradle Series
at Arena Stage

Jan 9 – 12, 2014

See how the salsiccia gets made!

Get a “behind the scenes” look at the development of our new Commedia dell'Arte staging of Thornton Wilder's beloved Our Town as part of the Kogod Cradle Series at Arena Stage this Jan 9-12.

Faction of Fools invades Arena Stage and brings their devilish sense of humor to an American classic. Wilder's work was wildly inventive in its time, relying on pantomime, direct address, and metatheatrical commentary, all of which are at home in a Commedia dell'Arte aesthetic. Furthermore, Wilder's townspeople represent the “stock characters” of American life, similar to the young lovers and old parents that populate Commedia dell'Arte.

In anticipation of a full production of Our Town during our 2014-15 season, Faction of Fools is delighted to participate in this workshop series at Arena through open rehearsals, Q&A sessions, and staged scenes from Wilder's original text. Aiming to identify an “American” Commedia within this American classic, Faction of Fools uncovers the archetypes that we still recognize in Our Town.
